The Moral Case Against Mandatory Vaccination - we own our bodies, nobody else does

Covid: The Moral Case Against Mandatory Vaccination

Published: October 6, 2021

It is becoming commonplace for governments to coerce their populations into being vaccinated. They have no right to do so, and this action is fundamentally immoral. It highlights the most basic question; who owns your body?

Essential Reading: In a previous discussion, I have used statistics from the UK government’s Office for National Statistics (ONS), about as respectable a source as you could possibly find, to show that the UK’s 2020 mortality rate is about the same as for 2008 (2008 had a slightly higher mortality rate). There is more detail, but the data makes it very clear that the world has been going through the first-ever collective hysteria.

It has spread like wildfire; the idea that governments can legitimately coerce their populations into being vaccinated. Here in New Zealand, it seems that we are now starting down the same path. There are even commentators that propose that this mandate is a road to freedom when it is, in reality, a road to serfdom. Quite literally.

The question at issue is very basic. Who owns your body? Is it you, or is it the state?

Let’s be very clear about this, the various measures being deployed mean that people will have no choice but to be vaccinated. There are those who are directly forced to choose between being vaccinated and earning a living. For others, it will be that failing to be vaccinated will make their engagement in life and society as normal people all but impossible. They will be outcasts. This is not encouragement but outright authoritarian coercion. Making a person choose between making a living, participating in society, and being vaccinated is not a choice. It is the brute force of the state being used against people.

Am I anti-vax? No. I have been vaccinated for just about everything, in particular as part of my military service.

What I am against is the appalling authoritarianism that is taking place. When the state believes it can force you to put something in your body that you do not want, it has crossed a very, very dangerous line. This has always been hiding in the shadows, for example in some jurisdictions there is mandatory vaccination requirements if a child is to attend a state school. However, this is different in scale and scope. This is casting people out of employment and society if they refuse the vaccine.

For all of the cheerleaders for this coercion, I will ask the question again; who owns our bodies, us or the state? If we are free people we own ourselves. When being forced to be vaccinated, the state is laying a claim on our bodies, and telling us that we do not own them; the state has rights over our bodies that trump our right to self-ownership. There can be nothing as illiberal as that. It is not freedom that is being enhanced by the forced vaccination but instead moving a large step onto the road to serfdom.

I don’t care about the political shade of the governing party. When any government believes that it has the right to use its power to force us to put something we do not want into our bodies, they need to be thrown out. We should never ever accede to this use of force by the state. One thing is certain of government; once we accede to such a power grab, they will keep using it, and only time will tell how far they might take it.

For the many useful idiots (I am not going to be polite) cheering this on, it is certain they have never thought about the authoritarian, if not totalitarian, power grab they have just cheered forwards. These people are idiots because they actually think that granting the state a right over our bodies is a good thing. It is that, or they are authoritarians who have no interest in basic rights and freedoms. And the “but it is for the good of society” excuse is the mantra of every totalitarian regime in history. Nothing excuses such an egregious violation of our right to self-ownership.

With every measure that governments take to force vaccination, we give up our fundamental right of owning ourselves, of owning our own bodies. That is the immorality of coercing vaccination. It needs to stop. We own ourselves.
